A REVOLUTIONARY FIRST IN THE WORLD’S GREEN TECHNOLOGY HAS ARRIVED, AND IT FITS IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND.

SAY GOODBYE TO PAPER COUPONS AND INNUMERABLE PLASTIC LOYALTY CARDS, AND SAY HELLO TO THE GREENTHING-E™.

THIS ELECTRONIC COUPON SAVINGS AND LOYALTY REWARDS DEVICE HAS ARRIVED TO HELP EASE OUR CRUSHING ECONOMIC WOES.

“FAVORED BY TREES EVERYWHERE”

(Toronto, Ontario, Canada & Cupertino, CA, USA ~ January 13, 2009) Modern and savvy consumers can go about their daily lives, saving money, making healthy choices, and helping to preserve the environment and trees – all in a single trip to their local retail stores.

Wellness Heroes Inc., a Toronto-based green/wellness technology corporation, is launching an unprecedented electronic value device that passes savings on to consumers through couponing and loyalty rewards.

Dedicated to the improvement of vitality, body, and spirit, Wellness Heroes has announced a revolutionary retail coupon redemption device. The “Greenthing-e” will greatly reduce the need for the 300+ billion paper coupons produced annually in North America.

Wellness Heroes has introduced a device that provides an internet-based coupon savings portal and healthy living greenspace directory (www.greenthingE.com).

The Greenthing-e is a handheld keychain-size electronic device (“pod”) that looks similar to the tiny personal MP3 players of today. It works in conjunction with a downloading platform, offering product coupons and healthy lifestyle information that would normally end up in piles on doorsteps and in mailboxes. This innovation provides the building blocks for a paperless coupon system.

The system has been powered and developed in collaboration with California-based innovation company Ecrio MoBeam®. The device has been unveiled – a worldwide first for both the device and the couponing system – and extended trials are starting in Toronto at a popular organic grocer, The Sweet Potato, see (thesweetpotato.ca)

All coupons download from the Greenthing-e, and they are simple to redeem (through existing barcode scanning systems). This testing program is the precursor of the national launch in 2009 for Canadian consumers. The Greenthing-e is the first device that drives new technologies in consumer conversion, green-thinking alternatives, and (perhaps most importantly) reduction of paper waste and clutter.

The Greenthing-e uses patented Ecrio MoBeam barcode technology. Using an LED (light emitting diode) it “beams” specific coupon barcodes (usually found on paper coupons) directly into laser scanners at preferred retail checkouts.

For this pilot, Wellness Heroes has won the support of leading “green” and organic consumer packaged goods companies, including Seventh Generation, Kettle Foods, Neal Brothers, Liberté Organic Dairy,  NutriSoya and smart Centre Oakville. The Sweet Potato shoppers will be offered a “loaner” Greenthing-e when they enter the store. The device is pre-loaded with coupons; at checkout, shoppers simply “beam” the coupons they want from the many offers stored on the device. A great feature of the Greenthing-e is that it can manage all of your loyalty cards, and even store your shopping list! It also shortens coupon-redemption time in grocery lines.

.

All redeemed coupons are being cleared by industry giant, Inmar, which will bring the entire trial period to full circle.

Robert Dunlop, Vice President of Strategic Alliances for Wellness Heroes, says, “We are excited to launch the very first ‘green’ MoBeam pod device, right here in Toronto. The world benefits when we embrace emergent technologies and greenspace in union.

The pilot gives us a chance to test the solution in a live consumer environment, giving The Sweet Potato shoppers a fun and enriching shopping experience while saving them money – it’s a win-win for all parties. We expect a successful trial here and will quickly roll out the product through registered charities, who can use the Greenthing-e for fundraising initiatives. General retail partners will sell the Greenthing-e at checkouts later this year, while Wellness Heroes continues to build partnerships with participating retailers and vendors.”

T. P. Nihill, Vice President of Marketing for Wellness Heroes, says, “This system is the start of the next big wave in fast, efficient and environmentally friendly technology in the highly competitive retail discounting industry. The solution is fast and easy for both the consumer and the merchant, and it allows for a greater variety of product savings and options. This reduces reliance on paper, which has functioned as the wasteful delivery vehicle of the discount coupon industry.

People with an interest in saving money and saving trees will want one of these devices!"

.

"This offering is a breakthrough for digital, consumer-driven couponing,” adds Peter Scott, Media Relations Manager of Wellness Heroes Inc. “It provides truly paperless couponing and a method to redeem them at checkout with no change to installed point-of-sale hardware. This is the first step towards eliminating paper use from the current 300+ billion coupons produced annually.”

Charities will find the new device extremely helpful for driving fundraising and awareness of their causes.

Neil Hetherington, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Toronto, says, “Habitat for Humanity Toronto is pleased to partner with Wellness Heroes. Now, by selling the Greenthing-e, we can raise more funds for much-needed affordable housing.”
